The National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI), is the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK, with 208,000 members in England, Wales and the Islands. The WI plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.
Doveside WI is a very active branch of the Women’s Institute with in excess of 50 members, based in the village of Rolleston on Dove in Staffordshire.
Meetings are held on the third Friday every month (except August) starting at 0945 am, at the Rolleston Commemoration Club on Burnside in Rolleston on Dove, DE13 9DN After a short business section, we have a speaker or demonstration and of course refreshments .
We regularly organize outings, competitions and craft sessions. All members receive an institute monthly newsletter, which not only keeps them in touch with the institutes activities but also includes updates on local community and federation events.
WIs from neighbouring areas are formed into groups. Our group is the Forest and Vale group and comprises the WI’s Anslow, Hanbury and Draycott, Rangemore and Tatenhill, Rolleston on Dove, Rough Hayes, Stretton and Claymills and ourselves. Social and business meetings are held during the year.
WIs are united to form county federations, ours being Staffordshire. In Staffordshire there are over 130 WIs with over 4,500 members. The county organize many trips, events and competitions.
If you have ever been curious about the WI, then come along and see what we get up to. We make no charge for visitors.
